Open through September
The museum’s archivists are digging deep into the Lockheed archives to bring forth a new display, of interest to former Lockheed employees and current Sunnyvale residents alike. Lockheed’s arrival in 1956 changed the face of Sunnyvale and the Santa Clara Valley, and the upcoming exhibit “Lockheed in Sunnyvale, 1956 to 2023” will highlight some of those changes. While a permanent Lockheed exhibit continues to be part of the museum’s first floor offerings, the new temporary exhibit will feature items acquired more recently as well as countless other materials that have never been arranged for public viewing.
In addition to the new display of Lockheed memorabilia in the rotating exhibit room, the museum will be hosting two receptions when even more Lockheed memorabilia will be displayed throughout the upstairs room. The receptions are scheduled for Sunday, June 25 and Thursday, June 29, 12:30 – 3:30pm, with opening remarks at 1pm. Current and former Lockheed employees, their families and friends as well as the general public are invited to these events. It is hoped that the receptions will also provide a means for collecting memories from former employees, recalling their time at Lockheed.
According to Laura Babcock, museum director, the focus of the Lockheed exhibit will be threefold:
- The changes in Sunnyvale following the arrival of Lockheed.
- An overall look at the various divisions within Lockheed and the important work accomplished through the years.
- The importance of Lockheed, not only for Sunnyvale, but for the nation and the world.
The Lockheed exhibit will be “up and running” by June 25 and will remain on display throughout September.
