UPDATE: Position filled
After 5 years on the job, I will be stepping down as newsletter editor at the end of the year, and am looking for a replacement. If this volunteer position might be of interest to you or someone you know, read on.
I am happy to provide whatever kind of assistance or training to the person who would like the job. It is a volunteer position without pay, but you will learn quite a lot about writing and editing, layout, design, publishing, and printing, which are all valuable skills to have for desktop publishing. This is an opportunity for a tremendous amount of learning and growth.
The person who works on creating the newsletter doesn’t need to be an expert in desktop publishing. He or she should have a strong interest in Sunnyvale history, along with an interest in page design and layout.
I currently use Adobe InDesign, but this is not required for the next person. You can use whatever you are comfortable using. If you have access to InDesign and would like training to use it for creating the newsletter, I am open to teaching you.
Here’s the basic description for the job of Editor
- Meet with the writers every other month for an hour to discuss the theme of the upcoming newsletter, and plan the articles.
- Help facilitate the editing process through Google Docs.
- Take the articles and place them along with photos in a newsletter layout
- Send the file to the printer after it has been reviewed by the writers.
