What a Sale!
The June 26th Vintage and Yard Sale, held on the museum patio, was a complete success! Enticed by a terrific array of donated goods for sale, a beautiful day, and a festive atmosphere, a crowd of happy shoppers not only found items of interest to them, but many discovered the museum for the first time! “I didn’t know Sunnyvale had a museum” was an often-heard comment from many who had lived in Sunnyvale for years. Although the museum was closed to visitors during the sale, except for the Museum Store, we passed out many museum brochures and heard comments from the shoppers about visiting the museum in the very near future.
Our sincere thanks go to Kim Thurgate, the efficient, well-organized chairman of the event, Janice Havey, who headed a crew of “price markers” for months, and dozens of others who volunteered their time to post signage, set up tables, unpack boxes, display items for sale, and take the leftovers to the Goodwill store. We look upon the sale event as a triple win for the museum:
1.) More storage space is now available.
2.) Several thousand dollars have been added to the museum coffers.
3.) Great public relations! More people know about the museum!
Great Increase in Museum Visitors and Volunteers
Ever since the reopening of the museum after the pandemic shut-down, we have seen a large increase in visitors. Whereas Tuesday and Thursday visitors often numbered less than ten each day, we are seeing twice that many. Sunday visits have sky-rocketed, with as many as thirty-five in a day.
Although we lost some of our volunteers during the pandemic (some moved away, others decided on a lifestyle change), we have recently added several to our numbers. We welcome all of our new volunteers and encourage others to offer help with one of the many tasks required for the museum’s operation.
Museum Needs
We are still looking for items related to christenings (gowns, clothes, cups, photos…) for the next temporary exhibit with the theme “Christenings”. Please call (408-749-0220) or email the museum at (info@heritageparkmuseum.org) if you have any items to loan for that exhibit.
