Blog· Uncategorized

9 May

The time period for this TTBC gathering was 1300 – 1500 CE

The following books were introduced:
Rand McNally, Historical Atlas of the World

Books for children:
Dorling Kindersley, A Child Through Time – A book of children’s history

Laura Amy Schlitz, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! – Voices from a medieval village
“Together, illustrator and author have constructed an exquisite bridge to the people and places of medieval England.”

Marguerite De Angeli, The Door in the Wall
“The drama and the pageantry of medieval life plus the simple realism of the common folkways of that period are all in The Door in the Wall.”

Laurence Anholt, Leonardo and the Flying Boy
“One of Leonardo’s inventions, the flying machine, is the subject of this book’s fascinating story. Boys and girls will be transported into the exciting world of Renaissance Italy, where they will meet one of the most brilliant men who has ever lived.”

The Middle Ages were times of famous epics in Europe:
Parzival, a medieval chivalric romance by the poet Wolfram von Eschenbach in Middle High German about the Arthurian knight Parzival.

The Nibelungenlied (upon which Richard Wagner based his ring cycle operas), written in Middle High German tells the story of knights, love, betrayal, and revenge.

Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy, an Italian narrative poem of an imaginative vision of the afterlife.
