The Time Traveler’s Book Club
We are excited to announce a new Members-Only program at the museum: The Time Travelers’ Book Club! This will be a great opportunity to meet with others who enjoy history and deep-dive into a particular time period!
What: Instead of everyone reading a single assigned book (like a traditional book club), everyone is invited to bring something they have read that is set in or written in a specified time period. The writing piece can be:
-
Contemporary fiction written and set in the chosen time period. Historical fiction set in the chosen time period but written at a later date.
-
A nonfiction piece written in the chosen time period.
-
A nonfiction piece written about something that happened or someone who lived in the chosen time period.
-
A primary source from the chosen time period.
Pieces can be written for adults or children (do not underestimate the power of juvenile fiction and picture books to learn about something new!)
Pieces can be set anywhere in the world.
We will then gather in a group and break out into smaller groups to summarize our books/articles, and find similarities and differences across the material.
Who: This book club is geared towards adults but teens are also welcome to join. Age range: 14-114.
When: Sunday August 4, 2 pm to 3 pm. Time period to prepare for: 1850-1900
Where: At the museum, upstairs in the meeting area.
Please RSVP to event host, Heather Dunphy-Nielsen at hdunphy@heritageparkmuseum.org
